What to do
Valle de Ricote Nature Route
To lose yourself and find yourself
The Valle de Ricote can be explored on foot. Slowly. Letting the landscape set the pace and each path reveal a new way of understanding this land where mountains, fruit groves and rivers have coexisted in harmony for centuries.
The Nature Route brings together some of the valley’s most characteristic trails and natural areas, connecting mountain ranges, ravines, viewpoints, traditional farming plots and ancient historic paths in a route designed to allow you to enjoy the surroundings with calm and respect.
Trails such as the Senda de los Moriscos, the route to the castle of Ricote and the paths that cross the Estrecho del Solvente allow you to delve into landscapes where nature still retains an authentic and largely unspoilt character. Among pine forests, rocky slopes, riverbeds and small agricultural plains, visitors can discover one of the most unique areas of inland Murcia.
The Sierra de Ricote and La Navela mountain ranges, both included in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, are home to significant biodiversity and a wealth of stunning landscapes.
Birds of prey, other Mediterranean birdlife, native vegetation and ancient cattle tracks combine to create an ideal setting for hiking, birdwatching and slow tourism.
The ‘Caminando por la Vega’ Ecotourism Route also connects various towns and areas linked to the River Segura and the traditional fruit groves, offering a different way of exploring the valley: more mindful, more leisurely and closer to the land.
Here, walking is not merely about getting from A to B.
It means observing how the light changes over the mountains, listening to the water flowing in the irrigation channels and understanding why this landscape has remained alive for generations.
Each route offers a different experience, but they all share something essential: the chance to reconnect with the environment through simplicity and silence. Because in the Valle de Ricote, nature doesn’t force itself upon you.
It keeps you company.
