What to do

Citrus Blossom Season

The valley at its most sensorial.

Every spring, the Valle de Ricote changes its rhythm

The fields of lemon and orange trees begin to blossom and the air fills with the delicate, unmistakable scent of blossom, transforming the landscape into an experience that engages all the senses.

The blossom season is one of the most special times of the year in the valley. For a few weeks, the fruit groves are at their most beautiful: the paths are filled with fragrance, the light softens and the landscape takes on a serene and fleeting beauty that invites you to pause and linger.

Walks amongst citrus groves, orchards and viewpoints

At this time of year the towns of Ulea, Ojós, Ricote and Villanueva del Río Segura offer guided tours, walks amongst the citrus groves, culinary experiences, craft workshops and activities linked to lemon culture and traditional agriculture.

Viewpoints, footpaths and small country lanes allow you to take in miles of lemon trees in bloom, creating one of the most characteristic and recognizable landscapes of the Valle de Ricote. An image deeply linked to the agricultural and cultural identity of the region.

But the experience of the blossom goes far beyond the landscape. It can also be savoured.

A moment to be lived calmly

Homemade marmalades and jams, fresh lemonade, traditional sweet treats, perfume-making workshops, floral waters and culinary creations featuring citrus fruits bring visitors closer to a culture deeply rooted in the land and its scents.

The blossom season lasts barely a few weeks, and perhaps that’s why it is so special. Because it compels you to savour the moment with calm and mindfulness.

Some places are remembered for what you see. Spring in the Valle de Ricote is also remembered for what you breathe in.
